PL gilts are designated for mothers in the fatteners production.

Breeds’ profile:

   Many and healthy litters
  High milk production
  Good feed conversion
  High carcass  lean meat content
  Free from RYR1t gene
Pigs of national breeding program are well adapted to environmental conditions in Poland
   Late maturity

PL breed was based on improved white German pig with falling ears which was a meat type of pig but with many primitive traits. The breed was upgraded using German national breed and Swedish national breed. The PL breed was finally identified and confirmed by the directive of Ministry of Agriculture in 1962.

PL pigs are of high level of all traits but especially those connected with reproduction performance. When selecting animals for further breeding great pressure was put on body shape. The exterior of this breed was the main reason why the breed became so popular. Pl pig is big with long and wide back reaching 250-300 kg of weight. White skin (small dark spots are also acceptable) covered with white hair. The ears on the small head are very big, floppy or small, narrow and half-stiff. The neck is long and light. Small shoulders tightly set to the trunk. Chest is rather shallow but wide and strong. The rump is long with well conformed ham muscles. The legs are rather short and positioned straight. As a dam line the PL needs to have at least 14 properly developed teats.
